A Tale of Three Hats

I’ve been knitting hats for awhile. It seems that knitting hats is what I do in December.

First, I knit a hat for my Dad. He had picked out a color sometime last year, I bought the yarn and then never got around to it. Something about getting married and moving to Dallas got in the way. Anyway, it ended up being the perfect travel project. Yards and yards of stockinette are exactly what I needed for the flights and waiting.

Hopefully Dad will like this one. Made of Madeline Tosh Sock in Badlands. The pattern is Sockhead Hat.

Then there is the hat of Levi. Julian asked for a rainbow hat so of course Levi needed a rainbow hat..only, Levi loves orange. So, I made him one but it stretched out and was too big for his little head. I took the hat home to Dallas after T-Day and took it apart and remade it. I like the way the pom pom is curly, like his hair. I also like the way this yarn pooled and striped throughout this hat. Made of Cephalopod’s Beastie in Ponycorn and Salamander, Ponycorn is no longer available. Pattern is Wee Willie Winkie Long Stocking CapIMG_4893

The last hat is the one I made for my Mother in Law, Tammie.

This was a fun hat, the pattern requires you to knit the brim flat then you join it in the round to complete it. The little flap is done with easy short rows. (Free Craftsy class at the link). I had a time with the pleats, the instructions call for sewing them all together and then flipping it and attaching the flaps. I didn’t like how it looked so I sewed the pleats one at a time. Made from Madeline Tosh DK in Dried Rose. Pattern is London Cloche.
